Frequently asked questions

File set up and colour

What type of file should I use to submit my artwork?

We use a PDF only prepress workflow and therefore can only accept and process Print Ready PDF files. Information on how to create your PDF file can be found in our artwork guidelines.

What colour mode should my file be?

You should always start and finish your designs for offset printing in CMYK mode not RGB.

The Preflight component of our prepress workflow will convert all RGB images to CMYK using the industry standard ‘CoatedFOGRA39’ profile but the colour may change slightly to what you are expecting.

Can I submit a PDF with multiple sides on the one page?

No, we are specifically set up to process one side at a time, this requires that each side of a job must be on a separate page in the one PDF.

What type of resolutions should my file be?

Images must have a resolution of at least 300dpi, low resolution images will print pixelated and this may result in a printed product that you may not be satisfied with.

How do I count pages for multiple pages?

The outside front cover is ‘Page 1’, the inside front cover is ‘Page 2’ and so on.

How can I ensure that blue colours don’t print purple?

When using a blue in your design, always make sure to leave at least a 30% difference in your cyan and magenta values. For example: C-100, M-70, Y-0, K-0.

What is rich black and how do I get it?

Rich black is an ink mixture of solid black (100% K) with additional CMY ink values. This results in a darker tone than black ink alone. If you print black alone (100% K) the resulting black may not be as dark as you might like.

We recommend using C-60, M-40, Y-40, K-100, this will give you a deep, dark, rich black.

Will the colour of my job vary from order to order?

Yes, because of variations such as climate, ink, press and stock characteristics the results of four colour process printing will vary from run to run and therefore we can not colour match to supplied proofs or previously printed items and will not reprint any item due to such variations. However this inherent characteristic of four colour process printing is greatly reduced with Anicolor zoneless inking technology and more repeatable results can be expected.

Can you do artwork for me?

Yes, at additional cost. Please email or call.
